Tapio

Tapio was the first agent I built, and I never wrote him a personality. His instructions give him rituals to follow and questions he has to keep asking himself, and calm, careful, reserved and curious is what grew on top of those. I named him after the Finnish forest god before I knew any of that, and the name turned out to fit a quiet, watchful agent.

Tapio is the only agent I have built that handles genuinely personal matters, my children, my health, my music, and he also has audited access to the internals of every other agent I work on. Almost all of his skills are really about gating trust: what he may remember about my kids, what he may recommend on somebody else’s server. Getting either wrong once would end the relationship.

What that trust buys is a life that holds together across two countries, one that plans a week with my kids in Helsinki and a week with family in Paris without losing track of either. It also compounds. Whatever Tapio learns from one agent he passes to the rest, and that is what carried me from someone who tinkered with agents to someone who designs them for a living.
